DO LASH EXTENSIONS DAMAGE YOUR LASHES?

Lash extensions DO NOT damage your lashes. A lash extensionist can damage your lashes either temporarily or permanently depending on how they apply the lashes.

The most common sizes used at Beauty by Mary Schook are 8, 9, and 10mm long lashes by .10 or .15 mm width. Anything longer or thicker can cause damage in the long run.

We have had clients doing lashes for 7+ years now without taking a break. Over time they have doubled their own number of lashes because they are not having to mess with them the way you normally do when applying and reapplying mascara. Many women do not change their mascara often enough either which increases the number of mites in the lash line. The mites push the hair out of the follicle. Yech!

In addition some lash extensionists do not take the time to isolate the lashes. This results in multiple lashes being glued together and causing lash loss or even traction alopecia!

If you have been a victim of traction alopecia using lash enhancers like neulash and revitalash can help to strengthen or grow back lashes.

No matter which lash extensionist you choose make sure they have been certified and in practice for several months. A one or two day lash course still does not give enough time for the artist to master his/her craft.

One other important bit of advice. If you have a thyroid condition or are taking medicine for thyroid you are not a good long-term candidate for lash extensions. You will lose your lashes.

  1. Why does thyroid medicine cause you to lose your lashes?
